Making a "Sock / Safety Ball"

You will find that the sock ball will come in handy for many drills. It will also be a favorite of young inexperienced players, young teeball or softball players because the sock ball is much softer than a baseball. The sock ball is very easy to make.

      1. Start with a pair of socks.
      2. Roll the socks up into a ball. Make sure the ball isn't too big; however, it does not have be the same size as a baseball.
      3. Once you've rolled the socks, take duct or masking tape and start to wrap the socks. Do not use too much tape, only enough to cover the socks (if you add too many layers of tape, the ball will be too hard).

At the start of the season, you should have at least 6 sock balls ready for practice. You can use the sock ball for catching drills, pop fly drills, as well as hitting drills.
